UNA casual café is a cozy little place located in a family block of Kyiv. It is a family business of a couple of dreamers, who wanted to put simple food masterpieces at the core of their business approach. They had a dream, and we had the solution.
Intro

the challenge

The cafe is located in an oversaturated food zone of Kyiv city, with some pretending to be delicious places on every corner. Our main challenge was to create a competitive brand that would differentiate the cafe from others. As we were involved in the project initially, we could create a holistic communication reflected in every detail: the name, the interior, brand design, website structure, social media communication, and even packaging.

Brand and communication strategy for a food service establishment is always tricky. You need to reinvent the wheel and find this particular highlight to make a place remarkable, as the food market is challenging and competitive in Ukraine. You should have an authentic attitude to win your audience’s heart. That’s something we love to fight for.

We started to explore Ukrainian and worldwide food trends at the very beginning. Our country has a strong food cult, but we wanted to pick the juiciest and most trendy part. The world seemed to look global, crowded, and fast, so the people’s is, so we saw UNA as a safe place for everyday breaks.
Another insight we found was that the main competitors were multi-functional food places. They were all faceless and look-alike. They offer banquet options, karaoke, shisha, and pizza-sushi classic cuisine.
So it became apparent to present something different
You are what you eat, they say. And we made that principle come true in a place where you can slow down from intense big city life. That is a place now where you feel safe from the buzz and junk food.

Result
UNA is now a well-established mechanism with a modern website, unique and relatable tone of voice, widespread delivery with excellent packaging, and elegant internal and external design of a place with a well-defined food-oriented identity. The unique and friendly "we are open" strategy made a café not simply a place to eat but a close neighbor to live. We combined Ukrainian hospitality, trendy simplicity, and tasty food made of fresh local farm products.
